Podcasts, as the name suggests, are the audio or video equivalent of a blog intended for download and playback on an iPod. Though most are available in formats compatible with portable audio and video players from other manufacturers, Apple’s iPod and iTunes software continue to drive and direct this emerging method of multimedia self-publication.
Webcasts cover a larger spectrum of audio and video material. From online tutorials and commentary to more detailed how-to instructional programs, webcasts offer first-hand experiences missing from even the most exhaustive hardware and software documentation. We prefer the term webcast, which includes streaming audio and video, Flash files and other formats that can’t be easily transferred to the iPod.
Don’t worry if you don’t have an iPod. With the right combination of media players and plug-ins, you can still connect to a vast network of creative resources.
Every week, we’ll highlight a new webcast worth checking out. Whether it’s a live event or a regularly published program, we hope you’ll find something new, something clever or maybe even something that fundamentally changes the way you work.
