Most revolutionary ideas are discovered by accident. Microwave ovens, the Pacemaker, even Silly Putty are all the byproducts of coincidence, not invention. This was also the case with Avatar Consulting.
Avatar Consulting started as a small collection of similarly skilled technology specialists helping a few upstart creative companies find their footing. Serving clients too small to need full-time IT staff, but too sophisticated to rely on the limited skills of break-fix tech support providers, we’d stumbled onto an under-served niche and the idea took shape from there.
Rather than providing a basic set of services to the largest possible market, Avatar Consulting provides highly specialized insight and services to a very specific set of industries. Advertising agencies, graphic and industrial design firms, print shops and publishing houses, public relations and marketing companies, photographers and videographers, music production and film studios are among our core clientele. Whether providing strategic direction, software solutions or system service and support, our expanding consultant network offers the experience and expertise of a full-time IT department without the hassle and cost of maintaining one.
So what is an avatar you may ask? Many will recognize the term as the image selected to represent oneself in email or instant messaging clients, while others may recall it being the name of the administrator account for a number of Unix systems. However, the origin of the word avatar is from Sanskrit and describes the physical manifestation of an abstract being in many ancient cultures.
Our consultants operate with striking similarity — providing assistance by email, IM or phone when possible or as onsite systems administrators and support staff when needed. Avatar Consulting is precisely that — we’re the IT department who’s there, even when we’re not.
Macintosh-based companies used to be limited to creative industries and educational institutions. Since the migration to OS X, with the flexibility and reliability of its Unix foundation, the presumption that Macs are only used by designers, students and scholars has changed. Our clientele has grown to include medical and dental offices, real estate companies, government research facilities, law offices and an increasing number of small businesses for which the Macintosh platform offers a preferable alternative to the Windows world.
Small businesses have unique demands rarely satisfied by one-size-fits-all tech support companies. That’s why Avatar Consulting works as an extension of your company rather than as an outside vendor. By understanding your business and your clients, we can identify the oversights and opportunities that may otherwise go unnoticed. Proactive suggestions and planned growth are our objectives, allowing our clients to concentrate on their business instead of the technology behind it.
